What species should be considered for the nest?

Over 20 species in the UK are known nesting box-dwellers. Known species are tits, nuthatches, tree sparrows, house sparrows, starlings, flycatchers, robins, house martins, common swifts and many others. A lot depends on where in the country the nest is situated and its closest proximity.

The situation determines who finds the nest
There is a great difference between guests if there is a stretch of woodland close by or if it is a truly urban location. The nest’s dimensions, the diameter of the entrance and its general appearance are naturally of great importance. If the entrance is smaller than 32 mm, the nest will be restricted to the smaller garden birds, for example the tit, the tree sparrow and the common redstart.
