Length: 14 cm
Breeding: Beginning of June
Maximum age: 11 years
Eggs and clutches: Incubation two weeks. 4 - 6 eggs. Sometimes two clutches.

The male

Spotted flycatchers appreciate a bird bath in the garden. It will frequent the bath a lot, not only to drink but to take a proper bath.

Appearance
Somewhat larger than the other flycatchers with proportionally larger wings. The back is an even greyish brown except the crown with it’s lengthways stripes.

Similar bird

A mottled grey without white on the wings. The female blackcap has a reddish brown crown.

Sounds and song
Has a fine, thin call. The song is seldom heard.

Food and bird tables
Exclusively insects which is usually catches in flight.

The nest and hollows
Nests in a hollow.
The nest is built on a ledge with a clear view. Will also inhabit special nesting boxes that may be placed in trees or on buildings.
