.
The male

The song thrush is found all over the country. It is one of the most common forest-dwelling birds and is known for its beautiful song. Will often sing from the top of a fir tree.

Appearance
A thrush of medium size. A drab face with a brown back. Underneath it is unevenly spotted black on a greyish yellow bottom.

Similar bird
The fieldfare is larger and has a grey crown, a brown back and a blackish tail.

Sounds and song
A loud fluty song consisting of short themes repeated 2-3 times and reiterated after a break.

Food and bird tables
In the summer worms and insects, in the winter berries and mushrooms.

The nest and hollows
The song thrush will choose a young, dense fir tree for its dwelling, and the nest is usually situated about two metres above ground, often lower. Its framework is made from dry twigs, moss and lichen, and inside this a construction of smooth, papery walls. The female builds the nest on her own, and achieves this construction by plastering the walls with a mixture of decayed wooden chips and saliva which she moulds into shape by laying down and pressing her breast and belly against the walls of the bowl.
