Did you know?
Cultivated land is becoming overgrown, which has resulted in a smaller number of linnets. It is the female who builds the nest, but while she broods the male feeds her with regurgitated seeds.
Appearance
A small finch with a marked white patch on the folded-up wing. The adult male has a red spot on his forehead and a fainter red breast.
Similar bird
Different from the redpoll as its back is a soft cinnamon brown.
Sounds and song
Its call switches between harsh and soft, and the song is a beautiful melodic twittering.
Food and bird tables
Its food consists largely of small seeds but sometimes insects in the summertime.
The nest and hollows
The nest is built, as already mentioned, by the female, while the male watches over it. The nest is often placed low in a shrub or a smaller tree.
