Did you know?
The lesser whitethroat has very discreet habits and chooses to breed in churchyards, pine groves but even gardens if there are protective bushes and trees.
Appearance
A small songbird with typical marks on its head. Dark cheeks, a grey crown while the throat and neck are white and the belly a greyish-white. The back is otherwise grey-brown.
Similar bird
The whitethroat has a brown-grey head without differing cheeks along with pink legs.
Sounds and song
The song differs from the rest of the songbirds with its two-second rattling sound. Before the rattle there are often some short, warbling notes. The call is short and low.
Food and bird tables
Mainly spiders and insects and berries in the late summer.
The nest and hollows
The nest is often placed far into a bush. The nest consists of a thin bowl of fine blades.
