Length: 11 cm
Breeding: April - June
Maximum age: 7 years
Eggs and clutches: Incubation two weeks. Often two clutches. 4 - 7 eggs.

Did you know?

.
The male

The chiffchaff comes in the early spring, usually April, and stays until October. It likes to sit and sing from a bare twig which lets its song be heard far way. The song, which can be heard from early spring to the autumn, is a repeated”chiff-chaff”, which is the most likely explanation for its name.

Sounds and song

The easiest way to pick out a chiffchaff is through its song. This can be heard from the middle of March and onwards. The bird’s call is also heard frequently.

Similar bird
Somewhat fainter colours than the willow wren, and generally darker legs.

Food and bird tables
Spiders, smaller insects, larvae and pupa.

The nest and hollows
Builds a nest out of moss, grass and leaves hidden in dense undergrowth on the ground.
